The Loreen Arbus Foundation is dedicated to advocacy for people with disabilities and other marginalized communities; the advancement of women and girls; gender and racial equity in rights; scientific and medical research; and the environment. The Foundation establishes and funds scholarships that elevate social consciousness and support initiatives addressing critical societal issues.
The Foundation collaborates with organizations to support and empower individuals with disabilities in film, screenwriting, journalism, and media. Below are current grants, awards, and scholarships:
Athena Film Festival – Loreen Arbus Fellowship
Supports two screenwriters with disabilities to attend the Athena Writers Lab with mentorship and access support.
ReelAbilities Film Festival – Loreen Arbus Completion Award
Funds films in rough-cut that feature at least one key creative with a disability (fiction or nonfiction).
Inevitable Foundation – Loreen Arbus Elevate Collective Awards
$8,000 grants plus mentorship and professional development for disabled women and/or nonbinary screenwriters.
Television Academy – Focus on Disability Scholarship
$10,000 scholarship at the College Television Awards for programs centered on disability and emerging artists.
NYWIFT – Loreen Arbus Disability Awareness Grant
$6,500 grant supporting a woman filmmaker completing a film on physical or developmental disability issues.
Women’s eNews – “Accessibility is Fundamental” Fellowship
Paid fellowship for journalists with disabilities, focusing on self-determination and resilience in autistic youth and adults.
